Aviator Game History: 2019 to Today
Aviator launched in January 2019. Adjarabet ran it first, in February 2019. Six months later, Spribe shipped Aviator 2.0. By December 2020, the game sat on more than 300 operators. By October 2023, it had passed 10 million monthly players.
This article follows that timeline in order. The launch comes first, then the 2.0 update, then the operator count and the player figures. A short section on the round math explains why the game has kept the same shape since release.
Launch at Adjarabet in 2019
Spribe launched Aviator in January 2019. Adjarabet was the first operator to run it live, starting in February 2019.
Spribe itself was founded in August 2018 in Tbilisi, Georgia. David Natroshvili is the CEO and co-founder. The studio was less than a year old when its crash game went live. It later opened offices in Kyiv, Warsaw, Tallinn, Curaçao and the Isle of Man.
Spribe describes Aviator as a “social multiplayer game consisting of an increasing curve that can crash anytime”. That one sentence covers the product. A plane takes off, a multiplier climbs, and the round ends at a random point. Players who cashed out before the crash get paid at their multiplier. Everyone else loses the stake.
Four traits separate it from a standard slot:
- It is a crash game, not a slot, and it has no bonus round.
- Two bet panels let one player run two stakes in the same round.
- A live bets panel shows what other players stake and win.
- A provably fair system commits the crash point before take-off.
Two details matter for the timeline. First, the genre: crash game, also called an instant game. Second, the social layer: players share one round and see each other’s results, which is what “multiplayer” means here.
Aviator 2.0 in August 2019
Spribe released Aviator 2.0 on 15 August 2019. The new version ran 40% faster than the original build.
Speed was not the only change. The update targeted the phones and connections most players actually had. Five items made up the 2.0 release:
- A build 40% faster than the January version.
- A lighter client for slow connections and low-end phones.
- A redesigned mobile interface.
- In-game chat with emojis and GIFs.
- The Rain feature, which drops free bets into the chat for the first players to tap “claim”.
The round screen that the Aviator 2.0 update rebuilt for low-end phones in August 2019.
The lighter build mattered for the numbers that came later. Aviator still runs in desktop, tablet and mobile browsers, and it is built for low bandwidth and budget devices. That design choice in August 2019 set up the operator growth of the following year.
Growth to 300 operators
Aviator reached more than 300 operators by December 2020. Spribe later collected certificates in more than 20 jurisdictions.
Three aggregators carried much of that distribution:
- Relax Gaming
- Slotegrator
- Salsa Technology
On the licensing side, Spribe holds a Malta Gaming Authority B2B licence, number RN/189/2020, which is active. Its UK Gambling Commission licence is currently listed as suspended. Certificates on file include South Africa (WCGRB), Ontario, the Netherlands, Sweden, Italy, Romania, Greece and Switzerland, among others.
Operator count matters because Aviator has no standalone home. There is no official Aviator app from Spribe. The game runs inside a licensed operator’s website or app, so every new operator deal put it in front of a new player base.
Player counts and records
Aviator passed 10 million monthly players in October 2023. Spribe described it then as the most-played crash game in the world.
Spribe’s company-wide figures give the wider picture. The studio reports over 50 million monthly active players across its games, 350,000 bets per minute, and a presence in more than 60 countries. Africa accounts for about 35% of the player base, and India is the fastest-growing market. These numbers cover all Spribe titles, not Aviator alone.
Brand deals came with the player growth. Spribe signed a multi-year UFC partnership in October 2023. Deals with WWE and AC Milan followed.
One record stands out on the operator side. On 10 April 2024, a Hollywoodbets player won R10,000,000 from two bets in the same round: R1,400 cashed at 3571.42x and R1,600 cashed at 3125x. Hollywoodbets caps wins at R5 million per bet and R10 million per round.
Aviator runs the same round on phones and desktops; the game passed 10 million monthly players in October 2023.
The timeline in short:
- January 2019: Aviator launches.
- February 2019: first live run on Adjarabet.
- 15 August 2019: Aviator 2.0 goes out.
- December 2020: more than 300 operators.
- October 2023: over 10 million monthly players; UFC deal signed.
- 10 April 2024: the R10,000,000 Hollywoodbets record.
RTP and crash points
Aviator runs at a 97% RTP. The house edge is 3% on every round.
Rounds are short. A round lasts about 8 to 30 seconds, with a few seconds between rounds, which works out at 60 to 90 rounds per hour. The chance of the round reaching any multiplier m is 0.97 divided by m. The table shows what that means in practice:
| Cash-out target | Chance the round reaches it |
|---|---|
| 1.2x | 80.8% |
| 1.5x | 64.7% |
| 2x | 48.5% |
| 3x | 32.3% |
| 5x | 19.4% |
| 10x | 9.7% |
| 20x | 4.85% |
| 50x | 1.94% |
| 100x | 0.97% |
About 3% of rounds, roughly 1 in 33, crash instantly at 1.00x. Everyone still in loses at once. Expected value stays at minus 3% of the stake at every cash-out target, so a strategy changes variance, not the edge. Aviator is a high variance game.
The crash point is set by a provably fair system:
- Before the round, the server publishes a SHA-256 hash of its seed.
- Client seeds from players are combined with it.
- The crash point is fixed before the plane takes off.
- The inputs are revealed after the round and can be checked with the verification tool inside the game.
Neither the operator nor Spribe can change a result after the round starts.
The live bets panel and chat sit beside the curve; the cash-out at 28.40 shows a late exit.
What has not changed since 2019
The RTP is still 97%. The crash point is still committed by hash before every take-off.
Typical stakes run from about $0.10 to $100 per bet, but the exact range depends on the operator. Spribe does not publish a maximum multiplier, and guides quote different figures. The win cap per round is set by each operator, so the same high cash-out can pay differently from one bookmaker to the next.
Demo mode still needs no registration. Operators host their own demos, and Spribe runs one at demo.spribe.io. The game works on desktop, tablet and mobile browsers.
One thing has never existed: an official Aviator app. The “Aviator” and “Aviator Predictor” apps on Google Play, Softonic, Uptodown and APK mirrors are third-party clones with “virtual coins, no real value” disclaimers or ads. One “Predictor Aviator (MOD) 1.9.4” APK is 25.84 MB, dated February 2023, rated 0 out of 10. Telegram “signal” bots resell public math. Prediction is impossible, because the crash point is committed by hash before the round. Hollywoodbets tells players not to spend money on Aviator predictors.
Pages that promote strategies to win aviator run into the same wall: the multiplier is fixed before the round starts, and the 3% house edge applies to every cash-out target. Martingale is the usual example. Doubling the stake after each loss reaches 1,024 times the base stake after ten losses, and it still does not beat the edge. Set a loss limit before a session and treat each stake as money already spent.
Values that depend on the operator include:
- Minimum and maximum stake per bet.
- The win cap per round.
- Free-bet promotions such as Rain drops.
- Whether a demo is offered on the site.
