The monetary system, from a behavioral perspective in psychology, is a unique form of conditioning because generalized reinforcement from tokens could be viewed in verbal terms as power. It is the control and power that shapes our behavior (their association with many items rather than few) more than the items we buy with the tokens. Out of interest I once helped researched how sustainable behavior in forging behavior can be the result of environmental conditioning without relying on concepts like intention. I wonder too if power and control, destructive forces in excess, are not also a product of environmental conditions. Tokens economies exist where ever most people are raised. Is the need for power a result of this environment and would the abolition of the token economy and the replacement with another form of reciprocity substitute a need for power with compassion?
